Overseas auto transport

Moving your base to overseas is more daunting than moving into another state or city within the country. If you are shifting then you have to take care of a lot of things. For instance, if you want to use your current car when you shift then you will have to ship it to the destination. At first it may seem very complicated to seek overseas auto transport. But it is quite simple and stress free once you interact with the overseas auto transport service. There are many people who are not assertive about transporting their car overseas. Initially it seems to be a very complicated process that will require a lot of paper work. However the process is quite simple once you take help from the overseas auto transport. If you are transporting a vehicle for the first time then you must get some useful information that will help you to understand how the process works. Once you approach transportation to do the job they will take care of the entire process. You are only required to fill some forms. These forms consist of services provided by the transportation. You can choose your preference and pay for those services accordingly.

Types of overseas transport

The first step towards transporting your car is to drive it to the port. If the port is close to your house then you can drive there yourself or you can ask the auto transport company to pick it up if you stay far away. Their services handle this part of the voyage as well. Once your car arrives at the port it is then shipped in any of the three ways, Roll On Roll Off, 20 ft container, or a 40 ft container.

Roll On Roll Off

This method of transportation is used for short trips only. For instance, this method is used if the car has to be shipped to Hawaii or Puerto Rico. The ship that transports the vehicle is usually a large type of car ferry. The car is driven and parked in the ferry among several other cars. Once the ferry arrives to the destination the car is then driven out and parked on the dock. The Roll On Roll Off or RORO is cheaper compared to container shipping. However, this method does have a few advantages. The vehicles are more likely to suffer minor damages when being transported. This service provides only vehicle shipping; there are no services provided to ship personal belongings.

20 ft container

This transportation method is safer compared to the RORO method. In this type of overseas auto transport the car is loaded into a 20 foot shipping container. The car is then tied securely so that it does not move when being transported. Most of the standard size containers will fit only the car. However if there is space the authorities may allow you to transport some household belongings too.

 40 ft container

The best option for overseas auto transport is the 40 ft container. You can transport not only your car but also other household items. The items are first loaded into the shipping container and then the car is driven in. A wooden bulk head is placed between the household items and the car to separate them. The car is then securely tied so that it does not move. On arrival to the destination the car and the household items are removed from the container. This is the most expensive shipping method of all the others.
